Precision coating of part “Edges” or perimeters has long been a manufacturing / finishing problem without a reliable and cost-effective solution. PMD has developed a method of coating the perimeter of varying thickness parts with an extremely high degree of consistency.
The system has micron resolution in the Vertical and Rotary axis. The simple design of only two axes reduces any accumulation in error during the coating process. Another key component of system accuracy is the scanning system that acquires not only the parts position on the spindle but also accounts for the parts variation in tolerances. The system generates a map of the part perimeter and the motion platform follows the map.
This concept allows placement of the part onto the chuck to be a non-critical function, so manual or robot placement is easily achieved.
